Jewellery Care Guide

Most pieces don't change because of one moment. They change through contact — repeated, unnoticed, daily. The aim is not to prevent this. It is to control how it happens.

Wear

Jewellery holds up to daily use, but surfaces respond to pressure and repetition.

✴ Contact with hard edges — phones, keyboards, metal hardware — gradually softens polish
✴ Structured movement (gym machines, reformer, weights) and carrying weight (bags, suitcases, a lead) apply pressure that can shift shape over time
✴ Frequent cycles of handwashing, sanitiser, and layered skincare leave a film that reduces clarity

These are normal conditions. Remove pieces when exposure is prolonged, then return them to wear.

Materials

Each material settles differently with use.

Gold
Stable in colour. The surface becomes less reflective with time.
Polishing restores the original finish when needed.

Silver
Responsive to air and skin. May darken when not worn regularly.
A polishing cloth returns brightness quickly.

Gold-plated silver
A surface layer that wears through contact. High-contact areas soften first.
Rotation extends the finish.

Rhodium-plated silver
A bright outer layer over silver. Gradually reduces with wear.
Can be re-plated to restore the original tone.

Stones

Stones remain stable, but their appearance is affected by what builds on the surface rather than the stone itself.

Gemstones can lose clarity when oils, skincare, or environmental residue sit on them over time. This reduces how they catch light rather than changing the stone. A gentle clean restores their surface reflection.

✴ Build-up from SPF, fragrance, and everyday products is the most common reason stones look dull
✴ Repeated impact or pressure can affect settings rather than the stone itself

Pearls

Pearls are organic and behave differently from metals and stones.

They respond directly to skin, moisture, and products. Over time, surface contact can reduce their natural lustre if build-up is not removed.

Worn regularly, they maintain their depth better than when stored for long periods. After wear, a soft wipe helps preserve their surface.

✴ Contact with skincare, fragrance, and oils has a direct effect on surface lustre
✴ Heat and prolonged moisture exposure accelerate surface change
✴ Settings should be checked periodically as the stringing or mounting naturally settles with time

Maintenance

Care should be precise, not excessive.

✴ Gold: warm water, mild soap, soft cloth
✴ Silver: polishing cloth when needed
✴ Plated pieces: dry cloth only
✴ Stones: gentle cleaning to remove surface residue
✴ Pearls: soft wipe after wear

Avoid over-cleaning. It removes material, not just residue.

Periodic professional maintenance is expected. Polishing restores surface clarity in solid metals, re-plating restores finish in plated pieces, and settings should be checked over time.

Storage

Store with intention: keep pieces separate, dry, and not loose in bags or pockets.

Over time

Surfaces will shift slightly with wear.
You can maintain that, or return it to its original state.

Both are part of ownership.
